I have a 1995 ford escort. changed the water pump and thermostat, but still over heats?

I changed the thermostat and the water pump on my 1995 escort 1.9 liter. It is still overheating, but only part of the time. I don't know what else it could be. I am open for any ideas. I thought about flushing the radiator, but didn't know if that would help. The heater blows hot, so I don't think it could have to do with the heater core. Please some one let me know..

Flushing it can never hurt. Also make sure the fan is working like it's supposed too.One other thing to check is the hoses.Get the engine hot then look at the hoses and make sure none of them are collapsing.Rev the engine too while your looking at them and make sure they still look ok.Sometimes an old radiator hose will do that and drive you crazy trying to diagnose an overheating problem. If the fan isn't working right you could have a relay or temperature sensor going bad.

are the fans chugging away while it is overheating??
I would flush the radiator and see how dirty it really is.

Also maybe one of your hoses could be partially blocked.

How can you tell it is overheating, could it be a bad temperature sensor or overheat switch? ie only an indication problem
Check transmission for slippage.

Change the rad cap to ensure it is working and not building up pressure before evacuation into the coolant bottle.

If you're lucky without any major problems, just a change of coolant (and your flush) will help, because you might be full of muck, and mixed brands of anti-freeze.
Flush the radiator and the block.

Make sure you run it good when you do this.

Especially the block, make up a fitting so it has high pressure.

once it's all together be sure to check for collapsing hoses.
Well I'd try for sure to make sure the fan is working , plus I'd flush the rad especially if it's not been flushed in some time , plus I'd check the antifreeze mixture with a antifreeze tester.

Basically the fan should engage once the car is sitting idling for about 5 Min's or so , plus the antifreeze can wear out after a few yrs and that could cause the overheating problem or gunk build up in the rad.Be sure not to mix the antifreeze and water more then 50/50 , plus I'd try using a flush kit that you can buy yourself cheap.

You've not really said how and when it's overheating but basically if overheating while idling then usually the fan or fan sensor or relay is faulty or it's the wrong antifreeze mixture. If it's over heating once driven on hwy then more then likely the water pump is faulty , plus if it only over heats when the A/C is on then probably a fan is faulty or it's fan related.

Hope that helps and best of luck.
Sounds like a head gasket issue Im afraid-contact me if interested in verifying it swinny
