How do I change a thermostat in a 2002 chevy silverado 2500hd?

Little more info (engine size gas /diesel) Drain the anti-freeze out of the radiator. There is a plastic twist plug at the bottom left of the radiator that allows the fluid to drain out there. There might be a rubber hose that lets the fluid pass down through the lower fan shroud. When that has stopped draining, close the drain plug and move the bucket away from the work area. At the top of the radiator, follow the upper radiator hose back to where it makes contact with the intake manifold. There is a hose clamp on the water inlet neck, loosen the clamp and remove the radiator hose. The thermostat is under the water inlet neck. It has two bolts that hold it to the manifold. The bolts may have Loc-tight applied to them from the factory so you might need a little heat to loosen them. (electric paint stripper) The gasket may or may not come off in one piece, if it doesn't ,scrape it off but don't let anything fall into the opening. Almost done, clean off and make sure the surface where the inlet neck sits is dry.Place the new thermostat (spring pointing down) in the opening, apply a small amount of gasket sealer to both sides of the new gasket. Place the gasket over the opening matching the hole for the bolts. Place the water inlet neck over the thermostat but make sure you have both bolts in the holes of the neck while you place it over the gasket, this will help keep the gasket in line with the neck as you lower it on to the manifold. Tighten down the bolts evenly till their snug and the torque them down to 30 or 40 foot pounds (1/2 to 3/4 of a turn) . Re-fit the radiator hose over the water inlet, secure the clamp and return the anti-free to the radiator. You might not be able to add it in through the radiator cap so it as to be poured in by way of the boil over resivior. Add as much as you can the the resivior then start your engine. Add the anti-freeze as needed till the %26quot;COLD%26quot; mark has been reached. Run your engine till normal operating tempature has been reached and then check for leaks. Allow the engine to cool off again and add more anti-freeze till the %26quot;COLD%26quot; mark is reached. Its been a while since I've done that to a GM product but I bet it hasn't change much since my 90 Astro van.
